QuillBot

Category: AI Writing

Rewriting, grammar and citation tools in one tidy writing assistant.

QuillBot is best known for its paraphraser, which rewrites a passage in a chosen mode, standard, fluency, formal, academic, simple, creative or shortened, with a slider controlling how much it changes. Around it sits a full writing toolkit: a grammar and spelling checker, a summariser that condenses long documents into a paragraph or key points, a translator, a citation generator, a plagiarism checker on the premium tier, and an AI content detector. There are browser extensions and a Word and Google Docs add-in, so it works inside whatever you are already writing in rather than asking you to paste text into a tab. For marketers the practical uses are unglamorous and frequent: tightening a bloated paragraph, adapting one piece of copy for a different channel or reading level, summarising a long report before you write about it, and a second pass on grammar before something goes out.

Our verdict

Does one job properly, which is more than a lot of AI writing tools manage. The paraphraser with modes and a strength slider is still the best implementation of rewriting around, and for the everyday work of making a paragraph shorter, plainer or more formal it is faster than prompting a general chatbot. The Word and Docs add-ins matter, because a tool you have to paste into gets abandoned. The honest framing is that this is an editing assistant, not a content engine: it will not research, structure or ideate, and if you want that you already have Claude or ChatGPT open. Rewritten output also needs a human read, since paraphrasing can quietly flatten a specific claim into a vague one. Free tier is limited but enough to judge it.

Best for: Writers and marketers who need a fast second pass on copy, tightening, reformalising or simplifying, rather than a tool to generate content from scratch.
